Euro 2022 - Jennifer Hermoso, will not play the Women's Euro

The Women's Euro is just around the corner (6-31 July), and for Jennifer Hermoso there will be no trip to England to accompany her teammates. As one of the favourites for the tournament, La Roja will be without their top scorer due to a right knee injury.

Spain has been gaining ground in women's football in recent years and "Jenni" is no stranger to the game! Important both in front of goal for the Spanish team and in the game thanks to her ability to take part in the construction of attacks, she will therefore be absent for many weeks due to her sprained right knee ligament. Since returning to Barcelona in 2019, Hermoso has compiled 54 goals in 47 games as well as being named the best striker in the Blaugrana's victorious 2020-2021 Champions League campaign and looks as strong as ever at the age of 32. A headache to replace for her coach, Jorge Vilda, who had decided to make a pre-selection of 28 players before the 23-man squad and quickly chose Real Madrid player Claudia Zornoza to take the place of his injured centre-forward in that pre-selection. Now the weight on the shoulders of Alexia Putellas, the latest Ballon d'Or winner, will be even heavier in the Selección's success. But given her form in recent months, she and her team-mates could still bring the women's national team its first trophy despite the absence of its leading scorer during the qualifying campaign for this EURO (10 goals).

Without Hermoso, we are still not safe from La Furia Roja taking on the European competition this summer! The answer will come on 8 July, when they take on Finland in the 'group of death'.
