French women heading for the 2023 World Cup

Tonight in Llanelli, Wales hosted France for the 7th day of the 2023 World Cup qualifiers. Leading their group, the EDF continued their road to the World Cup.

Against a courageous Welsh team, Les Bleues had to be patient to find the breakthrough, and even trembled in the last minutes. In the 31st minute of play, captain Wendie Renard opened the scoring with her 33rd international goal. The French number 3 was completely alone in the box and calmly took a corner from Toletti. 0-1 and the score remained unchanged until the break. After the break, Katoto (57') took advantage of O'Sullivan's mistake to make the breakthrough. The Welsh were in control of the game and were on their way to victory, but Sophie Ingle gave them hope in the 71st minute after a corner was badly handled by the French defence. In the end, Wales were too inaccurate to come back to 2-2 and could not avoid defeat at home. A 1-2 victory and a seventh win in as many games for France in these 2023 World Cup qualifiers. Next Tuesday, a draw will be enough for France to qualify against Slovenia.
